추다혜차지스 (Chudahye Chagis) at the Asian Pop Festival 2026
best of the rubik stage this yearbreadcrumbs
I first saw 추다혜차지스 at Pentaport in 2024, where they were the highlight of the entire festival for me. We were really motived to see them at the Asian Pop Festival this year because on the second day of the festival we were really craving a show with solid singing. A lot of the bands we saw that day had poorly mixed vocals, and we thought that maybe Chudahye would be the exception because she has such a strong voice. That turned out to be the case, and in fact, she could have done the show without a mic if she had wanted!
They were on the Rubik Stage, which is a neat little live club on the resort where the festival is held. It is really intimate in there, but also big enough that you can get a crowd large enough to really pump the energy up. It turned out to be a really cool place to see them since they create such a strong atmosphere when they play. They were scheduled at the same time as Noizegarden, who were doing their first show after so many years, so everyone was faced with a pretty tough choice during that time slot. Since whe had seen them play before, we thought that we would watch for a while then go see what Noizegarden was up to, but after just a song or two we were committed to seeing the whole set. The vibe was just too good.
It is hard to describe Chudahye to anyone who is not familiar. She always wears these giant feathery things on her head that somewhat resemble a moth; or maybe even an earwig. Her stage presence is powerful, like a shaman performing rituals, but not at all on in a pretentious way. I am usually peeved when bands talk too much on stage, but her commentary and crowd interactions don’t bother me. They are fun and emerge somewhat naturally in the course of the show rather than being a clinical “I guess I should address the audience now.” I think that typically gukak fusion bands have playful interactions with the audience. Chudahye is somewhat witty and has a good sense of humor, I think. I remember that at one point she commented about how people might want to leave early to see Noizegarden, and would sometimes jokingly bid farewell to people leaving early—all in good spirits, though, and really, the place was basically packed. I am sure they were really stoked that so many of us turned up for them.
The Rubik Stage was a great fit for them. It is such a peculiar and cozy space that not only does justice to their bubbly, chill songs, but it also makes their more intense, shamanistic songs that much more visceral. It’s always a joy to see them. Looking forward to seeing them again and finding out where we will encounter them next!
