봉제인간 (Bongjeingan) at the Asian Pop Festival 2026

a happy surprise for my ears
breadcrumbs

We have been to a lot of festivals where 봉제인간 was playing, but never got a chance to properly watch one of their shows. This time around we managed to catch a good part of their set. I didn’t really know much about them—I guess I still don’t—but I was pleasantly surprised by their style. Their sound is rambunctious. They are fast and chaotic, but also very tight as a band. They make a lot of unexpected turns in their songs and play with somewhat conventionally dissonant harmonies and rhythmic patterns. It’s the kind of thing that is much more exciting to see live.

I especially liked that they were doing this as a three piece. There is nothing wrong with being a bigger band with fuller arrangements, but there is also something special about just drums, bass, and guitar. This stood out to me when we first approached the stage; the band felt very present. The you could feel the blast of sound extending from their fingers. That is an interesting contrast, for example, to shows that involve pre-recorded tracks or a thick collage of effects that create a wall of sound.

I pledge to recognize the dignity and worth of all people. trying to implement microformats as much as i can
